Lacey Building History

Lacey Elementary, known as the "round school" was built in 1968 on 10.4 acres in it's current location at 1800 Homann Road SE in Lacey. The 46,305 square foot building includes 27 instructional spaces, plus 10 portable classrooms.

  • In 1980, the gymnasium was built.
  • In 2002-03, a major modernization was completed using local bond and state assistance funds. The modernization completely upgraded all building and site components. The play shed was converted to a kitchen, art, and music facility. A new play shed was built, and parking lots, drives, and stormwater management systems were also redesigned and reconstructed. The site was also re-landscaped with irrigation added.

Lacey Elementary was named after O.C. de Lacey, a realtor and attorney at the turn of the 20th century. The school was originally located where the Carpenter Road Safeway store stands today.
